Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 11, 2026
Last updated: June 11, 2026
The Void Economy ("we," "us," or "our") is an independent publication operated as a sole proprietorship, based in the United States. We publish voideconomy.com and the associated email newsletter. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect from visitors and subscribers, how we use it, and the rights you have over it.
The short version: we collect your email address when you subscribe, we use it to send you the newsletter, and we don't sell your data to anyone. Ever.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly:
• Email address — when you subscribe to our newsletter or create a member account.
• Name — if you choose to provide one during signup.
• Payment information — if you purchase a paid membership, your payment details (card number, billing address) are collected and processed directly by Stripe, our payment processor. We never see or store your full card number. We receive limited billing information from Stripe, such as your name, email, and subscription status.
• Correspondence — if you email us, we keep the contents of that message so we can respond.
Information collected automatically:
• Usage and analytics data — pages visited, referring sites, approximate geographic region, browser and device type, and newsletter engagement (such as whether an email was opened or a link was clicked). This is collected through our publishing platform, Ghost, and may also be collected through Google Analytics (see Section 4).
• Server logs — IP addresses and request data are processed by our hosting provider as a normal part of operating a website, including for security and abuse prevention.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information, and we ask that you not send us any.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
• Deliver the newsletter and any content you've subscribed to;
• Manage your membership account, including paid subscriptions and billing;
• Understand which stories and topics resonate, so we can publish better ones;
• Maintain the security and performance of the site;
• Respond to your messages and requests;
• Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, rent our subscriber list, or share your data with third parties for their own advertising purposes.
3. Service Providers We Rely On
We use a small number of third-party services to operate this publication. Each receives only the data necessary to perform its function:
• Ghost Foundation (Ghost Pro) — hosts our website, stores our member list, and delivers our email newsletter. Ghost processes member emails, login data, and site analytics on our behalf. Ghost's privacy policy
• Stripe — processes payments for paid memberships. Stripe's privacy policy
• Google Analytics (GA4) — we may use Google Analytics to understand site traffic. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect usage data. You can opt out via the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Google's privacy policy
These providers may store data on servers located in the United States or other countries.
4. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies for:
• Essential functions — keeping you signed in to your member account and remembering your subscription status. The site doesn't work properly without these.
• Analytics — measuring site traffic and content performance through Ghost's built-in analytics and, if enabled, Google Analytics.
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent you from signing in or accessing member content.
5. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA and UK Visitors)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data under the following legal bases:
• Contract — to deliver the newsletter and membership services you've signed up for;
• Consent — where you've subscribed to receive emails (you may withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing);
• Legitimate interests — to operate, secure, and improve the publication, in ways you would reasonably expect and that do not override your rights;
• Legal obligation — to keep records we're required to keep, such as billing records for tax purposes.
6. Data Retention
We keep your information only as long as needed:
• Active subscribers and members — for as long as your subscription or account is active.
• Unsubscribed or canceled accounts — we delete or anonymize personal data within a reasonable period after cancellation, except where retention is required by law (for example, billing records retained for tax compliance).
• Correspondence — retained as long as reasonably necessary to handle the matter.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal data:
• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
• Correction — ask us to fix inaccurate information;
• Deletion — ask us to delete your personal data;
• Portability — receive your data in a portable format;
• Objection and restriction — object to or limit certain processing;
• Withdraw consent — unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in any newsletter, or by contacting us.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at justice@voideconomy.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect (described in Section 1), the right to request deletion, the right to correct inaccurate information, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.
We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act. In the preceding 12 months, we have collected the categories of information described in Section 1 (identifiers, commercial information, and internet activity) for the purposes described in Section 2.
To submit a request, email justice@voideconomy.com with "California Privacy Request" in the subject line.
8. International Data Transfers
The Void Economy operates from the United States, and our service providers store data primarily on U.S. servers. If you access the site or subscribe from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required, our service providers rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for these transfers.
9. Children's Privacy
The Void Economy is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at justice@voideconomy.com and we will delete it.
10. Security
We rely on reputable service providers (Ghost Pro, Stripe) that maintain industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and limit access to it.
11. Links to Other Sites
Our articles link out to other websites — launch providers, research papers, news sources, and more. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. This policy applies only to voideconomy.com and our newsletter.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we'll notify subscribers by email or with a notice on the site. Continued use of the site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
